Good News ladies!
The stubborn fat in the thighs and hips which exists on many females presents much less of a health risk than does the “love handles” or “pot belly” in the male. According the authors of “Exercise Physiology: Exercise, Performance, and Clinical Applications” the female tissue takes the fat out of the blood stream. The thighs and hips contain large amounts of an enzyme known as lipase. This causes the area to store fat very quickly and it is very difficult to remove. This is good news for the female as she is an unlikely candidate for heart disease and other troubling ailments.
In contrast, belly fat on the male is “hyperactive metabolically” in storing and releasing fat into the bloodstream. This is bad news since the fat released into the blood can end up clogging the heart arteries and ultimately lead to hypertension, diabetes and other problems of the metabolism.
Why do I have fatty thighs?
Covert Bailey, who wrote the bestseller “Smart Exercise” believes they are related to the child bearing function of the female. It turns out that breast feeding activities will gradually activate the natural release of fat from the thighs. A study has also been conducted which finds most women can slim their thighs down naturally when the total body fat reached 18% or less.
If you are out of child bearing years and are unable to lower your body fat to levels which induce thigh slimming then liposuction can be a good solution for you.
When Suzette looked at herself in her full length mirror each morning the first thing she always noticed was her thighs… thunder thighs as she called them. Although she has a pretty face Suzette felt her thighs always got in the way and prevented her from living the care free life she was entitled to. Most everyone can easily spot the area of their body which causes them the most dissatisfaction.
Where is the thigh fat distributed?
Typically fat is distributed throughout the thighs is most pronounced in four areas: the inner thigh, outer thigh, the saddlebags area, and hips. Some patients have fat deposits only on the outer edges of the thighs while others have fat bulges on the inside. The most difficult fat to treat is the roll of fat just below the buttocks.

Liposuction of the thighs area is not a very complicated process and recovery time is generally fairly quick. The patient can expect to return to work within a few days. Why does fat gravitate to the thighs in some people? There are a number of key factors to consider including hereditary constraints, circulation issues and even posture. A qualified surgeon will make incisions in folds of skin so the patient will be able to wear shorts and swim wear without any visible scars.
A new procedure is available for helping to reduce large thighs and also provide a cellulite reduction boost. The good news is Syneron Medical has recently received FDA pre-marketing clearance for its new fat buster VelaShape. The procedure is said to provide a temporary reduction in the appearance of cellulite as well as a temporary reduction of thigh diameter.
According to Dr. Vince Afsahi who is spearheading the US launch: “VelaShape addresses the needs of the rapidly growing body shaping and body contouring market by providing fast, visible results, in as few as four office visits. The higher power of the VelaShape enables much quicker results in both cellulite and circumferential reduction applications. With four treatments each spaced one week apart, patients will be able to see thinner thighs and improved skin texture within a 30-day period.”
Other cosmetic surgeons find VelaShape works great alongside liposuction. Dr. Steve Mulholland finds VelaShape an excellent method to supplement existing liposuction procedures. “In my practice VelaShape is the perfect complement to any of my body sculpting procedures. For example, I use it effectively in smoothing and tightening treatment areas for patients post liposuction.”
Lipodissolve or Liposuction
Relatively new on the market, Lipodissolve is a non surgical medical procedure. A special compound called phosphatidylcholine is injected into small localized fat deposits to dissolve fat. Phosphatidylcoline (PPC) is a naturally occuring enzyme and is the main component of soy lecithin.
The theory is Lecithin has shown to have some success in breaking down fat and reduce cholesterol. PPC has been used for fat removal by physicians for several years now as a non invasive alternative to surgical procedures such as liposuction.
Is Lipodissolve a safe alternative to Liposuction?
No so according to Katherine Zeratsky over at MayoClinic.com. Zeratsky states: “Only a few, small scientific studies have been performed to test the safety and efficacy of the fat-dissolving shots. So far, the shots have not worked for everyone who has received them, and there have been serious side effects reported.”
If you’re considering liposuction you owe it to yourself to learn more about the procedure so you can make smart decisions. We have designed our web sites to provide this very information.
Lets face it, the whole idea of liposuction can seem almost too good to be true. Undesirable fat deposits are quickly sucked out from underneath your skin. It is important to note that the outcome can be dependant on the amount of fat removed, A liposuction procedure can vary between a minor operation with rapid recovery time and risk to the other extreme which would be considered a major operation with unpleasant recovery along with risk of complications.
What are the results of liposuction?
After your liposuction procedure you may be instructed to wear tight fitting compression garments. These garments are designed specifically to help minimize swelling. Your doctor will also probably prescribe a set of antibiotics which will help reduce any risk of infection.
To be honest expect some pain, some swelling and some bruising after the procedure. You will most likely want to wait a few days before returning to work. Physical activity should be kept to a minimum during the first few weeks. About a month after the procedure and most of the swelling has subsided, the main area where was was removed swill appear less bulky. In three to six months the treated areas will show its new leaner and tighter look.
